Our passion is to encourage University students to be part of serving the community in various ways. PMI has sought to identify the areas of need in the communities and endeavors to practically meet them with not only immediate but long term impact. One of the greatest needs is in education of children, particularly those of slum areas. PMI has chosen the NANDLAL SLUM for it’s overall development. This slum has approximately 1000 families, and for the past 3 years, PMI has been focusing on the education of the children and the health of the women and children. PMI has selected many children to encourage in their education and future life dreams. Volunteers join us to help tutor these children. We also monitor their health, teach hygiene, and give medicines & vitamins as needed. This is a long-term program with the goal of sending these children to college.

On the first of September PMI launched an exciting new program we call The Vitamin Project! The concern for the well-being of the Nandlal slum kids is what began the incredible undertaking. Over a year ago it was observed that a leading cause of sickness among the kids is malnutrition. The most plausible and practical solution was vitamins! With a goal before us, the plan was set in motion. In the time since, PMI’s founder, Dr. Peter Malakar, met with a trusted friend who directed him to just the right source.

Back to School Program Education is the key to life.Comprehending on this, back to school program was adopted to help remote children have educational accessibility. For instance, after learning that many children from Nandalal and Barabhad find difficulties in getting admitted to an educational system because of no accurate documents. We initiated to be a gateway to provide assistance in obtaining the acquired documents and help them in their admissions. Today we also reach out to students who are interested again in schooling after a short break. We associate with school authorities and appeal on their behalf. Our intent is to put children with willingness to learn back to school.

Parent education was started together with students of Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) for one year. Now the staff and coordinates are taking care of it. The program is formulated to help parents acquire and embody parenting skills and to learn about their children's cognitive, literacy and development growth. The program gives talks on sensitive subjects like Domestic Violence, Girl Child Education, Child Marriage, Birth Control, Mensuration, Hygiene and also deals with family-related problems- Financial, Unemployment and Alcohol Addiction. The program also emphasis Mothers at Home. We provide support so that they learn the skills they will need to find employment and ensure their children grow up well and manage the family's needs. Without your contribution be it in the form of financial assistance, volunteer, or material we wouldn't be able to come this far today. And for us to keep up this, we need your continual support.

The people in this world are remarkably different, yet in our differences we also see sameness. We may have been born to different families, but nevertheless, we were all born! Just the same, everyone faces it differently, but we all have to face death. Everything in between, what we call life, only continues this trend. One different “sameness” we’d like you to consider is how every person is uniquely gifted. Some have athleticism, others excel in learning, some in art or music, and the list goes on - but the sameness is profound: we are all abled! That is why at PMI we refuse to comply with the phrase “disabled” - it doesn’t fit our anthropology! Individuals that are blind, deaf, mute, paraplegic without limbs, and so forth are wonderfully “differently-abled” - abled in a way that rest of us aren’t!
